The Congress Initiative for the Bavarian Tourism Industry is a strong boost to support the branch. It supports organizers or agencies commissioned by them to host a congress or trade event in Bavaria. The aim of the program is to strengthen the MICE industry. Bavaria is happy to host your event. Who is eligible for funding?

Recipients of funding are event organizers or persons authorized by them who plan and organize events in Bavaria. Not eligible to apply are, in particular, federal, state and local authorities as well as regional authorities under public law, political parties or comparable foreign organizations.

What can be funded?

Funding is provided for conferences and congresses that are closed events aimed primarily at a specialist audience. This also includes conferences and congresses that take place in connection with trade fairs and also those that take place in combination with (legally required) general meetings.

What are the most important requirements for funding?

Funding is available for events held in Bavaria that last at least two days.

The minimum number of participants required for eligibility depends on the event location:
  • In Munich and Nuremberg, a minimum of 300 participants must be present on each day of the event.
  • In Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Fürth, Erlangen, and Würzburg, the minimum is 200 participants per day.
  • In all other municipalities, at least 100 participants per day are required.
To qualify for funding, the event must meet one of the following criteria:
  • It is being held for the first time,
  • at least one of the last three editions was not held in Bavaria, or
  • if the event has only been held once or twice before, at least one edition must have taken place outside Bavaria.

The amount of funding depends on the number of participants on site and the number of congress days.

Events can be funded up to twice within five consecutive years.

Additional funding bonuses are also granted: + 30 % if at least 30% of the participants come from abroad + 20 % if the event takes place entirely in the congress low season (August or November to March). Both bonuses can also be applied together for one event.
